Gilbert Families: There are still a few spots remaining in our preschool classes for the 2024-25 school year.
Playing golf yesterday, in that wind, could not have been much fun. And yet our girls golf team still put in the work to win another team title at Ames tournament held at Veenker Memorial Golf Course.
Veenker is such a difficult layout on a calm day. In that wind? Wow.
Our girls ...shot a 340 for an 18-shot victory over runner-up Ames. Eden Lohrbach was the individual medalist with an 81, with her twin sisters, Ava (83) and Ella (85) Lohrbach, in fifth- and ninth-place, respectively.
Haley Loonan carded a 91, Macy Underwood a 93, and Josie Dukes a 98.
Congrats, girls! #GilbertPride #TigersTogether
Yes, it was windy and, yes, at times it rained. But when the end result is a pair of team championships, it's hard to complain.
Our girls and boys track and field teams both captured the top spot in the team standings at last night's Bengal Coed Relays inside Tiger Stadium, and ...we were on hand to take plenty of photos.
Thank you so much to all of the volunteers who helped to make the meet run as smoothly as possible, and thank you to AD Ian Smith and Debbie Gray for doing such a great job of organizing things.
Here are some of the photos of our boys team.

DID YOU KNOW?
In addition to being a superstar principal, Mrs. Edwards is also an amateur beekeeper. As proof, she stopped by Mrs. Bresnahan’s kindergarten prep class today to share her knowledge of bees and the honey-making process with some of our students.
And let me tell ...you, she dropped some knowledge on the adults in the room too!
For example, she explained to the students how the color and taste of honey can differ depending on the source of the blossoms visited by the honey bees.
Students got the chance to try on a beekeeper’s outfit, look at a honeycomb, and they also had a chance to try some honey curated by Mrs. Edwards if they chose, as well as some other honey-flavored treats.
Mrs. Edwards, this was so much fun. Thanks for inviting us in to learn right along with our students.

Our high school theater department hosted the spring play Murder’s in the Heir, an audience interactive murder mystery-comedy on Friday and Saturday in the auditorium. Director Tiffany Nuckolls and the students put on a tremendous show.
It was such a fun experience for the audience to be... a part of the show. If you didn’t happen to catch it, here was the gist: Throughout the first act, audience members were asked to be thinking about who they think the culprit was, and at intermission votes were cast.
Throughout intermission, the votes were collected, tabulated, and then the second act played out based on who the audience chose to be the murderer. And a different character was picked for the Friday and Saturday shows.
Think about the work the students had to do for that, learning different endings, different lines, etc., and they pulled it off flawlessly.
Students, thank you for such a fun show. You all did so, so well.

A smile is always a good way to start a Monday morning, and these photos should definitely make you smile.
Gilbert Elementary had a special guest visitor on Friday — none other than Cy! He was there to spend time with our students during recess and to take part in Mileage Club.
...Cy high-fived and took photos with students, and joined them in walking around the playground so the students could rack up those steps toward their Mileage Club goals. He even took a turn down Slide Mountain!
It’s safe to say Cy brought an extra boost of energy to all of our students.
Here are some photos from the afternoon recess with our first graders.

Pilot Jamie Shore was back in the district to speak about his career with our second graders at Gilbert Elementary on Thursday, and we snuck in to Mrs. Weber’s classroom to see another group of fascinated faces while they listened to him speak.
Mr. Shore gave another great talk to our ...students, and when it came time for questions, it seemed like every arm in the room immediately went into the air.
The students then got the chance to work with maps, and the smiles got wide when they were able to locate Gilbert on it.
Thank you again to Mr. Shore for taking time out of his incredibly busy schedule to meet with our students. It was yet another great experience for our kids.

Close to 100 Gilbert High School agriculture and industrial tech students traveled to the Iowa Sate Fairgrounds in Des Moines on Wednesday to take part in the Build My Future event.
This was a hands-on career immersion event that more than 7,000 students from across the state attended. ...Students worked with industry professionals first-hand and got a true feel for what a day on the job is like with everything from power tools, to operating heavy equipment, and they were even able to use lineman gear to climb into the rafters.
Events like this are so useful for so many of our students and fellow students across the state. Thank you to Mr. Davis and Mr. Jones for leading this trip for our students. #GilbertPride #TigersTogether
We got a tip the chicks had hatched in Ms. Bonthuis’ classroom on Thursday, so of course we had to stop and see!
In case you didn’t know, for more than a decade, Dave Rickerl has brought eggs to our kindergarten classrooms so the kids can get to see chicks hatch. And this year, our ...kindergarten classes received new incubators for the process.
Ms. Bonthuis said the first chick began to hatch right at dismissal on Wednesday. A few hours later, a few more had started to hatch, and by the time we got to the classroom Thursday morning there were four chicks.
Come to find out, all of our kindergarten classrooms had chicks hatch yesterday.
Mr. Rickerl will be back in a few days to take the chicks, but it’s such a fun experience for the kids to get to witness. Ms. Bonthuis says whenever she runs into former students, it’s the one thing they always remember. #GilbertPride #TigersTogether

THE JOURNEY: From Preschool to Caps and Gowns
This was such a fun story to tell and an incredible scene to witness last week when a group of our soon-to-be graduates returned to where it all began: Mrs. Currans’ preschool classroom.
In case you missed it last week, members of ...this year’s senior class were a part of the first-ever preschool class at Gilbert Elementary. Last week, 18 of the 20 seniors in the preschool class returned to visit their old teacher and talk about what they remember.
