Our students and staff members at Gilbert Intermediate capped off Read Across America Week with a number of fun activities this morning.
Gilbert Intermediate celebrates this week each year with numerous activities planned by the students themselves. This year, the student leadership team ...planned fun dress-up days for each day of the week, one of them being a day where students dressed in a certain color designated to their favorite genre. At this morning’s student-led assembly, it was revealed the Mystery Genre was the winner of the favorite genre.
Following the student-led assembly, all of the students and staff members took part in a 30-minute “Read-A-Thon” in the gymnasium. You had to be there to fully appreciate just how neat it was to see 300-plus students and staff members scattered across the area reading quietly. Dressed in pajamas, many students brought a pillow, blanket and stuffed animal with them.
And when we say it was quiet, it really was. You could hear a pin drop in the gym during that half-hour!
The students celebrated the morning, the entire week, and the fact that Spring Break was only hours away with Kona Ice right before lunch.
We were there to take photos of the events, many of them below. The entire gallery of 70-plus photos can be found at this link: https://gilbertschools.smugmug.com/Intermediate-Read-Across-America-Week-March-7-2024
