Vocal Music
Our Philosophy
The Gilbert High School 10–12 Choir and Freshmen Choir are non-auditioned, performance-based ensembles which sing a minimum of four concerts per year, as well as the IHSMA Large Group Contest. Students in the 10–12 Mixed Choir and Freshmen Choir have the opportunity to participate in vocal lessons and the IHSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest. Members of the 10–12 Choir may also audition for the IHSMA All-State Choir, while Freshmen Choir members may audition for the ICDA Opus Honor Choir. In the spring of the year, choir members in grades 9–11 have the opportunity to audition for Tiger Voices, a select group of mixed voices that sings contemporary acappella music.
Gilbert Middle School has non-auditioned, performance-based choirs in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. The choirs perform four concerts yearly (two per semester) and may have additional opportunities to share their music as other events arise. GMS choral students have the opportunity to audition for the ICDA Opus Honor Choir, the ICDA Central District Honor Choir, and the Midwest Children’s Choir Festival.
