As part of Gilbert Elementary’s Family Literacy Night, kids were treated to Bedtime Stories from guest readers last night.
Kids came dressed in their pajamas and were able to sit and listen to eight different books read by some of our district staff members, including Superintendent Dr. ...Christine Trujillo. We also had instructional coach Ashley Soma, curriculum director Carrie Clark, kindergarten teacher Angie Bonthuis, technology specialist AJ Jaquis, and Iowa State tech interns Kylie Edwardson, Josie Helm, and Kathryn Hersom serve as readers.
It was so fun to see all the kids have fun at the event. Thank you to our elementary staff and our amazing PTO for handling the organization.

Our Holiday Door Decorating Tour continued today, this time at the middle school.
To start this off, can we all give Mr. Franzen a metaphorical standing ovation for his Door Decoration Day outfit? Talk about leaning into the holiday spirit!
Again, this is the third building ...we've watched do this and it is just so fun. The kids enjoy it and they really get into the activity. Thank you to our amazing staff for their leadership in organizing this day.
A common theme at the middle school - Mr. Danilson doors, all of which made me chuckle.

What a treat … in more ways than one!
Nancy Jenson, a former FCS teacher in the Pocahontas Area Community School District, was a special guest in Mrs. Anderson’s Beginning Culinary Arts classes this morning, as she stopped by to teach our students the art of pie making.
And, ...oh by the way, who was also in the class? None other than Mrs. Jenson’s grandson, Mason Griffin, who you could tell was quite proud of his grandma.
Mrs. Jenson started by teaching our students how to make a pie crust from scratch, and then it was on to making an apple pie.
Once her demonstration was over, it was our students who went to work to make their own apple pies. Mrs. Jenson and Mrs. Anderson were also nearby to offer tips and instructions, but it was primarily the students who were doing the creating.
Mrs. Jenson will be back on Thursday to see how all of the pies turned out, and the students will get to taste their creations as well.
Thank you, Mrs. Jenson, for sharing your knowledge and talents with our students today, and thank you, Mrs. Anderson, for inviting us in to see it.

Gilbert Elementary was the place to be Saturday morning!
There was the PTO Cookie Walk, and then there was the Book Fair, and then community members had the chance to walk the halls and see all of the great holiday door decorations done by the kids and teachers. In the gymnasium, there was... even a photo "booth" set up so kids and families could get their picture taken with our Gilbert Tiger.
It's events like this that reiterate what we all already know - this is such a special place. And while our school district continues to grow, it maintains that small town feel where everyone knows everyone.
PTO, thank you for your efforts with the Cookie Walk. It was such a hit with everyone! Gilbert Elementary Principal Staci Edwards, her staff, and students - thank you for opening your building up to our community for this event. It truly was special.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas ...
Our intermediate students spent Friday afternoon decorating their classroom doors to put the entire building in the holiday spirit. And the kids took this incredibly seriously. Each class wanted its door to look the best, and the result ...was some really creative ideas.
This afternoon, we'll have photos of the door decorating that took place at the elementary, as well as photos from Saturday's PTO Cookie Walk. #GilbertPride #TigersTogether
