Yesterday we shared with you information on a fundraiser for Sully Squad - a little boy and a family that means a lot to all of us at Gilbert Schools - that will take place at Friday's home football game against Mason City.
Today, the group leading that fundraiser - our very own ...football cheerleading squad - want to share more information with you on the fundraiser and why it is so important to them.
Please check out their video below. #GilbertPride #TigersTogether
Gilbert Schools is proud to host Youth Wellness Night on Friday prior to and during the home football opener and it will take place just inside the main gate to Tiger Stadium. A number of local groups will have tables set up to visit with anyone who is looking for information on available ...resources.
Gilbert Schools is proud of the partnerships it has developed with these local groups, and we encourage all of our students to stop by the tables to get a glimpse at what these groups have to offer. #GilbertPride #TigersTogether
Our Gilbert Intermediate fourth graders had a fun day and learned a lot last Friday when they all traveled to Ames to tour the Iowa Department of Transportation for a significant portion of the day.
Our students were given the opportunity to learn about a number of things such as ...cartography, snow plow technology, Iowa geology, aggregates, coring of the parts of the road, rebar testing, and even some chemistry.
Our fourth-grade team of educators played key roles in giving our students this opportunity, and we cannot thank the Iowa DOT enough for not only allowing our students to visit, but for going above and beyond to give them a knowledge-filled experience they won’t forget.

The Gilbert football cheerleaders and their families are leading a fundraiser to support a cause that is important to them and all of us at Gilbert Schools.
The Sully Squad.
Sully Sytsma is the 18-month-old son of high school counselor and football cheer coach Jordan Sytsma and ...her husband Cody, who is a volunteer assistant football coach at Gilbert. Sully is currently undergoing treatment for a Wilms tumor at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.
On Friday, Sully Squad T-shirts will be sold at the home football game against Mason City with the proceeds from the fundraiser going to the Sytsma family to help with medical and other related expenses.
A table will be set up near the front entrance for anyone who would like to buy a T-shirt to support Sully and the Sytsma family.
In addition, the cheerleaders have changed the theme for Friday’s game in honor of Sully. Those attending are asked to wear “Toy Story Blue” or your Sully Squad T-shirt.
Thank you to our cheerleaders for being positive leaders in our school and please keep the Sytsma family in your thoughts. #GilbertPride #TigersTogether

And, of course, we took plenty of photos at the Gilbert Elementary ground breaking ceremony on Friday.
We had a group of kindergarten students, all of them at least second-generation Gilbert students, join in the fun. They will be part of the initial second-grade class in the new ...building.
Also in attendance was Donna Holtan, who taught at Gilbert Elementary when the current building opened. It was great to see our district's rich history represented.
Some of the photos are below, and the entire gallery is available here: https://gilbertschools.smugmug.com/Elementary-Ground-Breaking-Ceremony-Sept-6-2024
Thank you to everyone who came out, and thank you to our community for the amazing support you give to our district! #GilbertPride #TigersTogether

We stopped by the high school this afternoon and bumped into one of the newest members of our food service department, baker Susie Wright. She showed us her latest creation and it looks delicious!
Susie made focaccia bread to go with Thursday’s lunch of spaghetti and meat sauce. Made ...with bread flour, sea salt, olive oil, and yeast, this will be a great side with the meal. Susie says it has a wonderful chewy texture inside and she thinks our students are really going to like it.
We can’t wait to try it on Thursday! #GilbertPride #TigersTogether
