NEWS RELEASE REGARDING NOVEMBER 5, 2019 ELECTION

In May 2019, HF 546 was signed into law extending the Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE) law through calendar year 2050. SAVE allows school districts to borrow against statewide penny sales tax revenue to help fund school infrastructure projects. The passage of the SAVE extension was a seminal piece of legislation which will positively impact Gilbert Community School District for generations. But with the extension of the law, some changes have been made to how SAVE funding can be used and the process the board must undertake to use these funds. In order for Gilbert Community School District to continue to support current facility needs and possible funding for future building needs per the district’s long-range facility plan with SAVE funds, we must adopt a new revenue purpose statement (RPS) to support the changes in the new law effective July 1, 2019. At the August 12, 2019 regular board meeting, the board passed a resolution to call an election on November 5 to include the question of adopting a new revenue purpose statement (RFP) to reflect the new changes in the law. This is NOT additional funding or taxation for our patrons, but merely an approval to meet the new law requirements on how to spend the SAVE revenue.
