We are expanding our building trades programming for those who may be interested in careers in construction or other related fields.  We will also be able to deliver more agricultural experiences with our building expansion at the high school. In addition to those opportunities, our other buildings offer samplings of career choices before students ever get to high school.  The middle school offers several courses that may lead to an interest in entrepreneurial endeavors or in STEM careers. The elementary and intermediate buildings also explore careers by adding Counselor Career Opportunity Activities. We believe it is important to provide exploration in a number of careers so that students may wisely choose their post-secondary path and understand that sometimes the path takes us a different direction if we follow what interests us and matches our skill set.

With the first of the snow having already fallen and more in the forecast, I’d like to remind you about signing up for our alert system through phone calls, emails or text messaging with School Messenger. School Messenger connects directly to PowerSchool, our Student Information System, for phone and email data.  If you wish to receive a notification, you may opt in to this feature by sending a text message with the word “Subscribe to 67453 from the cell phone you want to receive the notification on. We will also have it on TV channels 5, 8, and 13, usually by 6:00 in the morning.

Congratulations to the Gilbert Boys Cross Country Team and coaches Thomas and Staudt for qualifying as a team for State Cross Country!  They will run this weekend. As of this writing, our volleyball girls are within one game of going to state, and we are certainly cheering them on to accomplish that goal.   Practices have already begun for some winter sports, and we invite you to come out and support our student-athletes.

On November 8th and 9th, the high school will be putting on The Music Man, an Iowa based musical written by Mason City native, Meredith Willson.  Rehearsals have been going well, according to sources, and the students are ready for an audience.  Also congratulations to Aubrey Mizerak, Eleanor Lopez, Ryan Hinderacher, Myra Bernard, Luke Haverdink, Lydia Berns – Schweingruber and Alison Weiler, who were selected to All-State Band or Choir.

We have much to be thankful for this fall at Gilbert!
